What's up in Wisconsin?

I have so much catching up to do. Had to start somewhere so I thought I'd have a look at which blog posts have been popular in my absence. Some of you know that I have two blogs - this one and 'If the Truth Be Told'. So I thought I'd look at the viewing figures for both, and I looked again...and again. Was this right? Could what I was seeing possibly be right? The smallest post entry I have ever made had not 100 views (which would have been good), not 500 (which would have been awesome) but....are you ready for this? Just short of a quarter of a million views...Yes 236,064 to be precise...did someone highlight it on TV or radio in Wisconsin? Where is Wisconsin lol?

What have I done? Why Wisconsin? So many questions, so few answers. Does this mean I could have been a billionaire if I'd only signed up for ads? Hell I didn't even do much - just threw up a Youtube video and a small piece of text.... The Blog Post in Question

Who'll run the fastest at the Olympics?

I've been quiet of late - too stunned by the dreadful scenes coming out of London to really think straight. So many friends and family to worry about.

Things appear to have calmed and now I can think significantly more clearly. How on earth can London host the 2012 Olympics with such a seething cauldron of unrest bubbling just beneath the surface?

A suggestion was made that the Olympic logo for London be changed...I fear it may be more accurate than any of us would like...

Get Rid Of Them All...

Last night I wrote a Blog Post and realised that it would take me something like 20,000 words to get what I needed to, out there. I binned it.

Suffice to say that Britain is at a crossroads. I have an acquaintance who is serving three years in prison - we're not friends but have shared time and political platforms together. I have always admired and respected him, particularly for his honesty. When he was sentenced to three years for perjury even I, one of his staunchest admirers, found it hard to believe his claims that he was the victim of a conspiracy between Rupert Murdoch's News International, the Police and the British establishment. However I didn't write him off - it was in my mind just possible, however far fetched it seemed.

All hell has let loose in Britain as evidence has been uncovered that employees of Rupert Murdoch's News International have indeed been paying bribes to Police Officers. It has also been discovered that e-mails which Murdoch's News International claimed in court did not exist - and which could have proven my acquaintance's innocence - do in fact exist and have been found on a News International server by the Information Commissioner.

There is a disgusting cabal of corruption being revealed in Britain which threatens to beat a path all the way to the door of the Prime Minister.

Tommy Sheridan - I'm sorry I ever doubted you.

I, we all, owe a big debt of thanks to the Information Commissioner, ex Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and to the actor Hugh Grant for not letting this go.

In The Line Of Duty

I don't like being melancholy in my writing, and I rarely comment or touch upon current events. However my sorrow today is real, the shock I feel is real, and I think the only way to somehow alleviate it, is to write about it.

I live just a stone's throw from the Gold Coast here in Australia - South Brisbane. It's a world away from the streets of Glasgow through which I plodded as a Police Officer back in the late 70's early 80's.  But criminals are more or less the same the world over. Since moving to Australia I've had reason to 'call the cops' a few times - and each time they have dealt with my problem professionally and courteously. I have a huge admiration for them and especially the 'jovial' way they go about their business here.

Yesterday an armed robbery took place on the Gold Coast and hostages were taken - responding to the alarm Police Officer Damian Leeding and his partner Nikki Jackson were first on the scene. Constable Leeding, a new father to his second child, was shot in the face and head before even getting through the door of the hotel involved. A brave man, he didn't think twice about confronting the danger facing him, or the responsibility he had in ensuring the safety of the hostages.

They are talking about turning off his life support as early as this afternoon.

I want him to pull through, as everyone does.

God bless you Constable Leeding, God bless you.

Update - Tragically, Constable Leeding passed away at approximately 1pm today after his life support machine was switched off. He leaves behind a Widow Sonya (also a serving Police Officer) and two young children.

Constable Leeding died fulfilling the motto of Queensland Police - "With Honour We Serve"
